I'm currently updating her quilt pages on the blog. Hopefull I wont loose anything. I will continue to post all pics on the other page and hopefully will make it a little easier.
We would love for our family and friends to send us:
(1) A wish/poem/note expressing your good wishes and heartfelt sentiments for the baby;
(2) 8 inch by 8 inch cotton fabric square (prewashed & ironed, if possible); and
(3) 1 to 2 inch fabric scrap piece of the same square material for the memory book.
I hope to start putting her quilt together by the end of the summer or early fall, I'd like to have it done for Christmas. I'm still looking for the perfect book to put her wishes in.
What is a Good Wish Quilt, you ask?
100 Good Wishes Quilt/Bai Jia Bei
To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt.
It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the baby, and the other part of the cloth can go into a creative memory notebook with the wish for the child. The quilt contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
